Theodore J. “Ted” Pyrak, an attorney in Buffalo’s Black Rock neighborhood for more than 60 years who was prominent in community groups, politics and Polish organizations, died Sept. 6 after a brief illness. He was 92.
Polish was spoken in the household where Theodore Joseph Pyrak grew up on Amherst Street in Black Rock. His parents, Antoni and Marianna Wojcik Pyrak, had immigrated from Poland.
The youngest of seven children, he attended School 64 and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. During his years at Buffalo Technical High School, from which he graduated in 1950, he delivered The Buffalo Evening News and studied college preparatory engineering, but his performance on the school’s champion debate team prompted his history teacher to suggest another career.
