PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Women recently diagnosed, or currently battling ovarian cancer may have an alternative treatment option.
The American Cancer Society reports nearly 21,000 women will receive a new ovarian cancer diagnosis in 2025. The cancer attacks the ovaries, or the reproductive organs.
The OSF Healthcare Cancer Institute is accepting five patients now for the first clinical trial. The second one will start in late 2025.
Dr. Michelle Rowland, a gynecologic oncologist, said the first trial is for those recently diagnosed. They will have the option to get an antibody drug conjugate that specifically targets those cancer cells, with less damage to the normal cells than chemotherapy.
