The verdict is in for the 36th annual Official Great Aussie Pie Competition, a fiercely fought battle of crust and filling that had bakers from across the nation vying for the top honours.

The contest, running from September 8 to 11, brought together the Aussie Pie Council's finest culinary minds to scrutinise every detail, from the flakiness of the pastry to the richness of the gravy.

Bakers pushed the limits, with one Western Australian pie shop winning the most innovative pie award for their beef Wellington pie.
