Three brave Ukrainians paid a visit to Sudbury on Thursday to share their heartrending stories of life in the war zone and thank local organizations and individuals for their support.
One of the three, a young man named Roman Maksymets, lost three limbs — both legs and an arm — while clearing land mines in the Donbas area in 2016, after Russia invaded Crimea, as a volunteer with the corps of engineers. He also lost an eye and suffered hearing loss.

Despite the horrific injuries he incurred, “this guy is so positive and has no bitterness,” marvelled Mike Zienchuk, wealth strategies group manager with the Ukrainian Credit Union, which organized the visit. “He embodies the Ukrainian will to never give up.”
