HALIFAX - A sentencing hearing is set to continue today for a teenage boy who fatally stabbed a high school student in Halifax. The 16-year-old, whose name is not being released, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in January.

The incident occurred on April 22, 2024, when the accused, then 14 years old, participated in a group attack against 16-year-old Ahmad Al Marrach. During the altercation, the teen admitted to using a stolen kitchen knife to stab Al Marrach, who was a Grade 10 student.

In connection with the case, an 18-year-old man has been convicted of manslaughter for allegedly organizing the fight. His sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin on October 20.

Additionally, another 18-year-old involved in the incident received a sentence of 10 months in a youth detention center, followed by 17 months of community supervision. A 15-year-old who also took part in the attack pleaded guilty to manslaughter last fall and was sentenced to three months in custody, along with two years of community supervision.

The ongoing hearings are part of the legal proceedings following a tragic event that has deeply affected the Halifax community.
