NORMAN — John Mateer’s first completion last Saturday night against Michigan showed just how special he is a passer.
As Mateer scanned the field and saw tight end Jaren Kanak coming open over the middle, he planted his left foot and started to transfer his weight that way. There was just one problem. Kanak’s route was breaking to Mateer’s right.
So what? Mateer unloaded, whipping his right arm across his body from a three-quarter slot, like a shortstop ripping a baseball to the other side of the infield. The result? A perfectly delivered pass that summited a dropping linebacker to settle in Kanak’s catch radius for an impressive, one-handed snag.
