As I drive through Nanakuli daily, I see home lots with plenty opala and junk cars in driveways right up close to the highway. And some homeowners neglect to maintain their yards from weed overgrowth and structural house dilapidation. These eyesores are disturbing and unacceptable, but can be cleared and fixed.

It would be nice if our Hawaiian homesteaders appreciate what Prince Kuhio Kalanianaole initiated: to get the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act for his people. The purpose was to rehabilitate and encourage his people to be self-sufficient, back on their soil. They owe it to him. The Hawaiians are stewards for their land, and they should make every attempt to cherish and embrace the effort spearheaded by Prince Kuhio.
