HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The family of a construction worker killed on the job a year ago today plans to hold a memorial service and celebration of life for him Friday.
The service is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the intersection where 54-year-old Jose O. Diaz Nieves was struck- West Boulevard and South Whitney Street.
He was a private contractor working for the Metropolitan District and pronounced deceased on the scene on June 12, 2024.
The man accused of striking and killing the 54-year-old construction worker pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in August, but not guilty to half a dozen other others, including risk of injury to a child and reckless driving.
Tommy Nguyen- who was 25 when the crash happened- claimed he was having a seizure at the time of the incident.
