Students have said they 'did not know' about plans to turn the accommodation where they live into homes for migrants .

The Home Office have lodged an application to utilise a 247-bedroom, three-storey block of flats from the 1970s in Headingley , Leeds, as housing for migrants. The unexpected move has left locals and university students residing in Mary Morris House stunned, as they were completely oblivious to the Home Office's plans.

Critics have suggested that the targeting of a student building is a tactic to evade the full scrutiny that would typically accompany a comprehensive planning application. On Thursday, two security guards were posted outside the block while a few students moved in and out, some arriving for the start of term later this month.
