ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – City Council is considering an ordinance amending laws regulating peddlers, solicitors, and canvassers to promote public safety, commercial security, and traffic safety.

Rocky River City Councilman Thomas J. Hunt, who introduced the legislation at a Sept. 8 council meeting, said the city has had complaints for some time about aggressive types of solicitation.

“This is an ordinance that would promote safety, and, hopefully, set some hard and fast rules with regard to prohibited locations and manners of solicitation,” Hunt said.

The ordinance reads that it “is intended to impose reasonable, content-neutral time, place, and manner restrictions on solicitation in order to further the public interest without restricting lawful charitable, civic or religious fundraising.”
