Following the surprising announcement by President Donald Trump on Fox and Friends Friday morning that the alleged shooter of conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk was in custody, CNN reports the 22-year-old Utah male was likely turned in by his own father.

"The suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk confessed to his father that he was the shooter. His father told authorities and secured his son until they could arrive to pick him up," sources told CNN reporters, according to CNN White House correspondent Kristen Holmes.

NBC News similarly reports "a family member saw the photos of the suspect and turned him into police, two senior law enforcement officials say," though the report did not corroborate the suspect's father's involvement.

The president, on Fox and Friends, also mentioned that a minister may have been involved in his apprehension.

"[Trump] is saying a minister recognized him," said Jonathan Lemire on MSNBC's Morning Joe.

According to MSNBC, five senior law enforcement officials have named Tyler Robinson as the suspect.
