BBC Weather forecaster Jay Wynne has passed away at 56 following a prolonged illness. ‌

His brother Matthew confirmed the devastating news in a moving tribute. ‌

"Jay had a gift for gentle clarity, making his forecasts for sometimes complex weather systems feel accessible and engaging," Matthew Wynne said. "A keen skier, golfer and musician, Jay enjoyed travelling to pursue his sporting interests. We will miss his wisdom, generosity and dry sense of humour." ‌

The meteorologist began working with BBC Weather in autumn 200 and became a familiar face on BBC News at Ten.
