President Donald Trump said Sept. 12 that he is "running out" of patience with Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, when it comes to the war in Ukraine.
"It's sort of running out and running out fast," Trump said when asked on "FOX and Friends" about his patience for the Russian president. Since taking office for his second term, Trump has sought to mediate an end to the bloody war that began when Russia invaded its neighbor in February 2022.
"It does take two to tango," Trump added about negotiations, noting that Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to negotiate.
The president, who noted the magnitude and impact of recent sanctions that the U.S. placed on India for buying Russian oil, said that "we're going to have to come down very, very strong" on the Russians.
Trump did not specify what additional measures against the Russians or their trading partners might go into place should Putin continue to avoid peace negotiations.
Russia also violated Poland's airspace with 19 drones on Sept. 10, causing NATO fighter aircraft to scramble and shoot down the aircraft. Poland called for NATO states to convene for consultations after the incident.
