The City of Everett, Massachusetts, announced Thursday the cancellation of a Hispanic Heritage Month festival amid concerns about possible U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in the area.
In a statement, the city announced that it had made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Fiesta del Río, originally scheduled for Sept. 20.

"We know how much this event means to our city. It is a celebration of culture, music, food, and unity. However, with the recent ICE raids in our region, many of our friends and neighbors are feeling fear and uncertainty," the statement read.
