GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Ryder Park is set to be a destination for baseball fans in the city in coming summers.

Grand Island City Council unanimously approved a five-year contract between the National Sports Service in Lawrence, Kansas and the City to put a minor league baseball team in Grand Island, during Tuesday night’s meeting. The teams home field will be Ryder Park.

According to the City Council agenda, the National Sports Service runs the Diamond League, which also owns teams in Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, and Colorado, would allow the team to play 60 games, 30 being home games and 30 being away.

Parks and Recreation Director Todd McCoy said he hopes bringing the team in will have a big impact on the city.
