The Buffalo Sabres might have some early adversity.

Top goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is dealing with an injury and the timetable for his return is unclear, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reported Friday.

The club is describing it as a “tweak”, Fairburn reported. Training camp is scheduled to start next week.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the Sabres signed goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to a one-year, $825,000 contract. Fairburn says the move was in part made as a result of the injury to Luukkonen.

After signing a five-year extension with the Sabres last off-season, Luukkonen struggled during the 2024-25 season (3.20 goals-against average, .887 save percentage).
