Ego Nwodim is the latest cast departure from "Saturday Night Live."
The comedian announced on social media that after seven "unforgettable" seasons, she is leaving the NBC sketch comedy show.
"The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight," she wrote in an Instagram post Friday, Sept. 12. "I have decided to leave SNL. I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity; to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship."
Nwodim continued: "Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always now invite me to your weddings please!!"
In the comments, Nwodim's fellow cast members – past and present – reacted to her news.
"I just texted you but I also want to say it loud and proud here: it was an honor and total joy to get to work with you. One of the best to ever do it," former cast member Cecily Strong wrote.
"YOU DID YOUR DUTY EZ…. WELCOME BACK TO OUTSIDE…. WE HAVIN A TIME," Punkie Johnson, who exited the show last year, joked. "LETS PLAY."
Current cast member Chloe Fineman added: "One of the best to ever do it my friend. GOAT."
Fineman had previously spoken out about the recent lineup changes, calling the shakeup "pretty wild."
"Some shocking stuff – a little heartbreak, sadness. I haven't fully processed anything," she told Extra TV at a New York Fashion Week event for Michael Kors on Thursday, Sept. 11. "But I will say, the show has such turnover. I'm going into my seventh year, I've done it, and you always experience it. But these people stay in your lives."
'SNL' cast changes for 2025: Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, more
The actress is one of five recently announced departures ahead of Season 51. Cast members Devon Walker, Emil Wakim and Michael Longfellow announced their exits from "SNL" in August, and longtime star Heidi Gardner is also reportedly among the exits.
Nwodim joined "SNL" as a featured player in 2018. She is the second-longest-serving member of the show's cast to leave ahead of the upcoming season in October, behind Gardner.
On Sept. 5, five comedians were added to the "SNL" cast for Season 51: Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson and Veronika Slowikowska. According to Variety and Deadline, the remainder of the "SNL" cast from last season, including "Weekend Update" anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che, is expected to return.
"SNL" returns for its new season on Oct. 4.
