GRANT PARK — The Taste of Chicago will return in July next year after years of being held in the fall due to the NASCAR Street Race.

The next Taste of Chicago will be held potentially around the “Fourth of July time period,” Clinée Hedspeth, commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, told City Council members at a budget hearing Thursday, according to WBEZ.

The Taste had for years been a prime summer event — but it was pushed to September in 2023 to accommodate the NASCAR race. With NASCAR taking a hiatus from its Chicago Street Race next year, the Taste can return Downtown in the summer, Hedspeth said.

Taste of Chicago hauled in $2.8 million in food and drink sales this year, as the city now charges a 10 percent commission on vendors, Hedspeth said.
