CANTON ‒ A visiting judge will preside over the trial of two Canton police officers charged with reckless homicide for the death of Frank E. Tyson while he was in their custody during an April 2024 arrest.

At a pretrial hearing on Sept. 12, Stark County Common Pleas Judge Kristin G. Farmer said that she will ask the court's administrative judge, Frank G. Forchione, to ask the Ohio Supreme Court to appoint another judge to hear the case against Beau Schoenegge and Camden C. Burch. Both are 25 and have pleaded not guilty.

Farmer cited her marriage to a law enforcement officer as the reason for recusing herself. She said neither defense attorneys nor Stark County prosecutors have asked her to step aside, and that opinions she has sought indicated she is not required to step away.
