INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - A man is dead and a house has exploded in Independence after police were called to a domestic disturbance late Thursday night.

The Independence Police Department said officers were called to the 2300 block of S. Arlington Avenue for a suicidal individual Thursday night at 11. At the scene, officers determined a domestic disturbance between two brothers resulted in one of the brothers, a man, firing shots at the other brother.

IPD said no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

Because the brother who fired shots had barricaded himself inside the home, IPD SWAT was called to the scene.

Police said a smell of natural gas was coming from inside the home, so the gas was shut off. Approximately 10 minutes later, the home exploded, police said.
