The National Trust has confirmed it will remove a Union Jack flag which has been attached on one of its monuments.
The charity said the large flag has been flown from the prominent Penshaw Monument, in Penshaw, Tyne & Wear.
It had been attached to the Grade-I listed building without permission, National Trust said.
An assessment will be done on the 70ft monument to make sure it has not been damaged.
National Trust has now confirmed that the flag will be removed due to a policy over attaching items to historic buildings without permission.
