A 15-year-old girl died of meningitis after being discharged from hospital with a suspected case of norovirus, an inquest has heard.

Zara Cheesman went to A&E on December 20 after vomiting and complaining of neck and shoulder pain.

But the teenager was discharged by medics, who suspected she was suffering with norovirus.

Two ambulance technicians - who are non-registered clinicians unlike paramedics - went to Zara's home the next day.

She was showing 'red flags' of meningitis such as confusion and a severe headache.

Zara should have been taken by the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) workers to hospital but was not.

She died on December 23 last year, with an inquest into her death hearing she was 'failed' by the ambulance service.
