The long run of mostly summer dry weather slowed the water flow in the area’s river systems. That low water level is a fact many overlook – unless you farm for a living, fish for recreation or live in Southwick or Northampton.

Residents in those two communities, unlike many nearby cities and towns, have had to abide by restrictions this summer because water flows in the Westfield and Mill rivers are so low aquatic life is in danger.
