More space for kids is being built at Naval facilities in Kitsap to ease the high demand for childcare in the area.
The Navy is building a new, larger Child Development Center at the Bangor base, with the capacity for 204 children. That work comes after flattening the original one built in 1983 that accommodated 152 kids, with an expectation to finish the construction on the new facility in June 2026. Once that happens, kids now using the Jackson Park Mobile Learning Centers (MLC) will be moved to the new Bangor CDC, and the MLCs in Jackson Park, which have room for 72 children, will be torn down and replaced by a new CDC (98 children capacity) at the same location. Site preparation for the new Jackson Park CDC is scheduled to begin in September 2026, according to Naval Base Kitsap.
