A bit of alternative Shakespeare would seem to be in order this week: What’s in a name? A Department of Defense by any other name is an un-American idea. I’m referring, of course, to President Trump’s unilateral decision to rename our DOD as the Department of War.
First things first, there is the expense involved. Just how many signs, seals, and letterheads will need to be changed? The number 70,000 has been floated. I don’t know if that’s accurate, but there are certainly thousands. A friend suggests we invest in sign and stationary firms. Oh well, it’s only money — yours, mine, and ours. And President Trump asks for so little.
