College football is going to destroy itself. Nothing we can do about it, you know? We’ve seen this coming since the transfer portal and NIL payments — smart and fair ideas, at face value — have spun into something stupid and chaotic. Something about college football will survive, even if it’s a bastardized version of the Big Ten vs. the SEC, each conference bloated to 25 or 30 schools each, propped up by the unholy trinity of revenue streams: TV networks, alcohol sales and online gambling .
