Stronger knife search powers will be put on a state's election agenda as party leaders and rank-and-file members gather after an apparent internal hit claimed a major scalp.

The Victorian Liberals have been left without a permanent state party director for their annual two-day council meeting in Melbourne at the weekend.

Deputy federal party leader Ted O'Brien and Victorian party leader Brad Battin are expected to address Liberal faithful on Saturday.

In his first state council speech since becoming opposition leader, Mr Battin will commit to introducing Jack's Law if the coalition wins the state election in November 2026.

Jack's Law allows random weapons searches by police at any time in all public locations.
