DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers will honor former pitcher Aníbal Sánchez next weekend at Comerica Park as part of their annual Hispanic heritage celebration.
Sánchez, 41, pitched for the Tigers from 2012-17, playing a key role in the club’s 2012 pennant run during his first season in Detroit, when he was part of an imposing rotation with Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander and Rick Porcello that powered the Tigers to the 2012 World Series. He delivered seven strong innings in Game 3 of the 2012 Fall Classic and threw a franchise-record 17 strikeouts against the Braves on April 26, 2013
He later rejuvenated his career with the Washington Nationals , helping them to a World Series title in 2019 after taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning of the NLCS opener .
