The SSgt. Sky Mote-Detachment No. 697 of the Marine Corps League hosted a memorial wall dedication and remembrance event at Placerville's Veterans Memorial building on Sept. 10.

Honoring all Americans who have given the ultimate sacrifice during the Global War on Terrorism, the tribute featured the unveiling of a special memorial dedicated to SSgt. Sky R. Mote, a Navy Cross recipient (posthumously) and local U.S. Marine who died in 2012 in the Sangin district, Afghanistan. Family and friends of Mote attended the emotional community event.
