Mark Sanchez Faces Felony Charge After Stabbing Incident
Mark Sanchez is now facing a Level 5 felony battery charge, which could result in a prison sentence of one to six years. This announcement was made by Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. A press conference is expected shortly, where local law enforcement will provide further details about the incident.
The former NFL quarterback, 38, was involved in an altercation early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis. He has been charged with three misdemeanors: battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
The incident reportedly began when Sanchez confronted a 69-year-old delivery driver who was parked at a hotel loading dock while delivering fryer oil. According to the driver, Sanchez took issue with his parking spot, leading to a heated exchange. The driver attempted to use pepper spray on Sanchez, but it was ineffective. Fearing for his safety, the driver then stabbed Sanchez multiple times.
Sanchez sustained a significant cut to his cheek during the altercation. Both he and the driver were transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. Following a review of surveillance footage from the scene, Sanchez was arrested.
As of now, Sanchez has not publicly commented on the incident, stating that he does not remember much from that night. The situation is still developing, and more information is expected to be released soon.
