Collin Wickramaranta was bummed when he stepped off the mat for the final time.
“Once my career ended, I was a little lost,” he said. “I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do. Then, my head coach in college told me he thought I would benefit from getting into coaching.”
After two briefs stints as an assistant coach at the college level, Wickramaranta is returning to South Jersey high school wrestling, landing the head coach position at Cherry Hill High School East.
The school made the announcement on Friday.
“I’m excited to get started,” said the 25-year-old Wickramaranta, a Marlton native who graduated from Cherokee in 2018. “I like the thrill of teaching the kids and then seeing them apply it in the matches. That always gives a big burst of energy for me."
