MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mid-South leaders are speaking out after President Donald Trump announced that he will send National Guard troops to Memphis to address concerns over crime .
Trump announced the deployment on Friday morning, stating that Memphis is "deeply troubled" and that both Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Memphis Mayor Paul Young are happy with the decision. Young later clarified President Trump's statement during a press conference on the matter, calling it "an overstatement".
The president went on to claim that a FedEx board member suggested the move, who told him that he requires an armored car when traveling through Downtown Memphis.
