NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — The orchards at Green's Fruit Farm near Elysburg are full of apples ready for the picking. Farmers Sara and Bobby Hricko have been busy harvesting their crop. They say this year the spring wasn't the best, lowering the number of fruit on the trees, but the dry sunny weather made the remaining apples quality very good.
"We didn't have that many flowers as we wanted in the spring, but the color is good, the flavor is good, the insect damage is minimal, so we're really grateful about that," said Bobby Hricko, Green's Fruit Farm co-owner.
The fruit farm does pick-your-own apples throughout the season. The Hrickos say it is every Friday and Saturday throughout September and October. They say the apple varieties people are allowed to pick change every weekend.
