A man running away from police in Roxbury shot an officer in the arm early Friday before he was shot multiple times by other officers, Police Commissioner Michael Cox said.

The officer and the suspect were taken to hospitals with wounds that were not considered life-threatening, Cox told reporters near the scene.

Around 12:45 a.m., officers saw a “group of suspicious individuals” in a park near the intersection of Dudley and Washington streets, according to Cox and a statement from police.

As officers approached, one of the people ran away and onto Kenilworth Street. Police pursued him on foot, Cox said.
