Demolition of the apartment complex ravaged by fire in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood can officially begin.

Officials with the city of Pittsburgh confirm the demolition permit for the Jefferson apartment building has been issued to Scaaf Excavating Contractors. Advertisement

That demolition can begin as early as this afternoon or on Saturday morning, officials confirmed.

The Jefferson Apartment complex in the 500 block of Forward Avenue was condemned on Tuesday following an hours long fire fight.

Smoke from the fire was first spotted around 8 a.m., bringing 73 firefighters to the area to fight the flames.

The fire was first reported as a second alarm but quickly grew to a third, then fourth alarm.
