Loftis Middle School says their administration received reports this week that a student made an "inappropriate threat" to other students involving access to a gun.

Both the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and the school tell Local 3 no access to a weapon was found, and there was no immediate threat to the safety of others.

In a statement sent out to families, the Hixson school said safety is their highest priority, and they appreciate the trust parents place in them to take care of their children:

"In light of this situation, we want to emphasize the vital role that communication and collaboration play in maintaining the safety of our school environment. If you have any questions, please reach out to our administration."
