Students who attend faith-based schools that do not offer particular fall sports can now participate in those sports at the public school district in which they reside.

On Friday, PIAA executive director Bob Lombardi clarified the point which was on the board of directors Wednesday meeting agenda.

“That was an outcome of a court case between two schools in the center part of the state,” Lombardi explained. “The court issued an order that said this needs to be strongly considered by PIAA.”

In July ,the measure passed a first reading as the PIAA staff was tasked with drawing up the language used in the edict. The board confirmed it in a second reading on Wednesday, and it went into effect even though it will not have a third reading until, at the earliest, the next board meeting on Oct. 8
