EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy returned to practice on Friday after his fiancée gave birth to their son, Rome.

McCarthy's fiancée, Katya Kuropas, posted on Instagram that the couple's first child weighed 8.7 pounds and was 21 inches in length. The Vikings remarked about how eager the new dad was for the shared experience with his fiancée as well as how dutiful he was to be as present as possible with his team. Coach Kevin O'Connell smiled as he recounted McCarthy asking permission to leave the building before practice on Thursday once Kuropas went into labor.
