STORRS, Conn. (WTNH) — UConn's annual First Night basketball event will not be held this year, according to UConn officials.

The school decided to cancel the event due to ongoing renovations at Gampel Pavilion.

"The UConn Huskies look forward to seeing our students and fans out in force at the Basketball Capital of the World this season," the school said in a statement to News 8.

The event is a free, student-focused event celebrating the men's and women's basketball teams.
