CLAYTON — St. Louis County's jail failed an accreditation inspection this week by a national corrections association because of a dirty kitchen and leaky showers, according to county spokesperson Doug Moore.

Inspectors from the American Correctional Association visited the jail earlier this week and found a lack of cleanliness and food storage problems, Moore said. The leaky showers, he added, are a symptom of bigger plumbing problems at the jail. The jail population was about 1,300 this week.

The county's food service contractor, Trinity Services Group, is working to resolve the problems so it can achieve accreditation at another inspection in about three months, Moore added.

The Alexandria, Virginia-based American Correctional Association's accreditation is not required, Moore said. T
