READING, Pa. (WHTM) -- A Berks County man will spend two months in a federal prison after authorities say he defrauded customers in an art fraud scheme.
Carter Reese, 77, of Reading, was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl to 60 days in prison, two years of supervised release, and four months on home detention.
He will also have to pay a $50,000 fine and $186,125 in restitution.
He pleaded guilty to one count each of wire fraud and mail fraud in May.
As part of an art fraud scheme, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleged Reese sold or attempted to sell art, claiming they were originals from prominent artists like Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Keith Haring.
