A man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for killing his roommate last year in the Springdale community of Prince George's County, Maryland.

Richard Bennaugh was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Domonique Scott Hayes.

Many of Scott Hayes' loved ones were in court Friday when the Bennaugh's sentence was announced. Some of them were shaken and in tears.

"Justice was served today. I'm so so happy that he got justice," Scott Hayes' sister, Monique Scott Hayes, said after the sentencing.

"My son mattered, and he was chased out like a dog and murdered. And the jury, and the judge and everybody saw right through it," his mother Monique Scott said.
