GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville City Manager Cynthia Curry is working with her replacement to ensure he hits the ground running when she leaves in a couple of months.

Andrew Persons is set to start as interim city manager on Oct. 21. City commissioners unanimously chose him to replace Curry after she submitted her resignation letter on Aug. 8.

Persons says his thirteen years of experience working for the city make him a natural choice for the job. He currently serves as chief operating officer for the city.

He’ll take on the position as the city faces increased scrutiny from the state. Gainesville was one of the first municipal governments targeted by the Florida DOGE task force .
