CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — The wife of a man facing an armed sexual battery charge has been arrested after police say she sent letters with confessions from a dead person to her husband's attorney and a Pinellas County Clerk of Court.

Gregory Thompson, 63, was arrested in 2021 in connection with a rape that occurred in 1999. He was charged with armed sexual battery after detectives resubmitted DNA evidence in 2020 that was originally collected in 1999.

The victim, who was a 30-year-old woman at the time, told police that her door was unlocked when she briefly left her Dunedin residence on November 15, 1999. During that time, police say Thompson entered her home, hid, attacked her and threatened her with a knife to comply with his demands.
