People will soon move into the 35-storey tower of new homes and businesses built where the old Flamingo Hotel once stood in Surrey.

A ribbon-cutting event Friday (Sept. 12) was held more than three years after tower construction started on the landmark site, at Whalley Boulevard and 107A Street.

The sold-out Flamingo One, first of three towers planned there by Charan Sethi's Tien Sher Group development company, is advertised as "the next chapter of the revitalization of Surrey’s historic Whalley district." The entire "Flamingo Block" could one day be home to 3,500 people, a post on whalleydistrict.com says.

ITC Construction Group has built 375 condominium homes, 50,000 square feet of office space and ground-level commercial shops and services.
