RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- Riverside County law enforcement is investigating an attack on a wild burro near Moreno Valley, shot by someone armed with a bow and arrow.

A photo released by the non-profit group DonkeyLand Rescue showed the burro with an arrow lodged in its midsection. A veterinarian with SoCal Equine Hospital in Norco said the burro has been operated on, and is recovering.

Donkeyland said this is the 6th burro shot with an arrow.

"It makes me mad," said resident Bud Smitheram. "I'd like to catch them myself."

The incident happened earlier this week, in a rural area near Pigeon Pass Road and Quail Call Road. According to DonkeyLand, it's the sixth such attack they've seen recently.
