A Lewis and Clark County District Court deputy clerk was charged Friday with felony obstruction of justice after an alleged "huge oversight on her part," court documents state.

Denaye Rosmarie Cooper, 40, of Helena, was charged in Lewis and Clark County Justice Court and faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Cooper admitted to law enforcement in a court complaint filed Friday that she inadvertently leaked confidential criminal justice information to a primary source in a drug investigation. She worked as a deputy clerk in the clerk of district courts office in Lewis and Clark County.

In November 2023, the Missouri River Drug Task Force (MRDTF) started an investigation into the distribution of narcotics within the county, which is still ongoing, court documents state.
