JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man is facing murder charges after police said he fatally shot another man with a crossbow early Friday morning.

Officers were called to a West 4th Street address around 4:54 a.m. Friday for a suspicious situation, the Jamestown Police Department said in a statement. When they arrived, they found 62-year-old Michael R. Jaeckle dead from an apparent crossbow injury.

During the investigation, police said they took 58-year-old David W. Nelson of Jamestown into custody. Police said he possessed a crossbow at the time. He has been charged with second-degree murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Nelson is being held at the Jamestown City Jail, awaiting arraignment. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
