EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Volunteers across Evansville came together for a day of giving back.

It was for the United Way of Southwestern Indiana’s annual Day of Caring.

An organizer says more than 1,000 volunteers signed up to help 45 local nonprofit organizations.

One of those is the Dream Center in the Jacobsville neighborhood.

Chief Advancement Officer Tom Moore says the Center has participated in the effort for a number of years, but this is the first year the Center has done a mulching project for the event.

“We just think it’s such a great event across the entire community<’ Moor says. ”Brings people out, they get to know new areas of the community, they may not be aware of and do some things that really are impactful.”

Around 30 volunteers laid mulch at four houses.
