After FBI Director Kash Patel dropped the ball during the scramble to find the killer who shot pro-Trump activist Charlie Kirk in Utah, an increasing number of figures in the MAGA movement are losing confidence in him and demanding his ouster, The New Republic reported on Friday.
Although the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested on Friday, Patel has drawn fury for a series of mistakes in the case, including publicly congratulating law enforcement for bringing in the wrong person. Influential anti-diversity activist Chris Rufo has already called for his removal, saying he "performed terribly in the last few days, and it's not clear whether he has the operational expertise to investigate, infiltrate, and disrupt the violent movements — of whatever ideology — that threaten the peace in the United States."
And Rufo isn't alone.
After Patel's performance, Alex Jones associate Joseph Biggs posted, “@FBIDirectorKash you’re the person we are supposed to get the final truth from. Stop all this click bait s--- you keep doing. It’s unbecoming of the office in which you represent and only proves you were a horrible pick for this position.”
Meanwhile, Fox News' Laura Ingraham wrote that the incompetence was "unreal."
Even far-right activist Laura Loomer, who is well known for being a massive influence on Trump's hiring decisions, slammed Patel's $100,000 reward for Kirk's killer, pointing out it's far less than the $50 million bounty the Justice Department put out for Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro. “This is honestly embarrassing for the FBI and our country. What a slap in the face to Charlie Kirk.”
As all this is going on, The New Republic reported, "Patel ... lost it during an online meeting Thursday with some 200 agents involved in the search as he cracked under pressure to find Kirk’s killer. In the expletive-ridden tirade, Patel warned his subordinates that he would no longer put up with the FBI’s 'Mickey Mouse operations,' and was apparently irate that it had taken the bureau some 12 hours to obtain a photograph of Robinson."
Patel is already in a legal quagmire as he faces a lawsuit by senior FBI officials who claim he wrongfully terminated them as part of Trump's revenge scheme on anyone involved in prior investigations against himself — with one journalist speculating his comments to FBI personnel could result in Trump himself getting deposed.
